We understand the technical demands, the career challenges, and the opportunities because we’ve lived them. That’s why nearly every major player across the U.S. nuclear fleet trusts The Ottohahn Group as their go-to partner for hard-to-find, high-impact talent.

We are seeking a Civil / Structural Engineer – Nuclear Power (Direct Hire, Remote)

About the Role

We are partnered with a top nuclear industry leader to hire a Civil/Structural Engineer with direct nuclear power experience. This is a direct hire, in-house position offering full benefits, paid time off, and remote flexibility. You’ll be joining a highly respected team that works on mission-critical nuclear power projects, contributing to the safe and reliable operation of energy infrastructure across the country.

In this role, you will gain exposure to work across the nuclear fleet in the U.S., supporting multiple utilities and a wide variety of PWR and BWR reactor types. This provides engineers with unique skillsets and technical depth that are highly valued across the nuclear industry.

If you’re feeling stagnant in your current role and not developing the skills you want, this opportunity will allow you to strengthen your technical expertise, broadening your industry experience, and continuing to grow while working on some of the most important energy projects in the country.

Engineers in this role will also have the rare opportunity to work on both groundbreaking new builds and the historic efforts to restart nuclear plants once thought to be permanently closed. This is a true game-changing engineering opportunity one where you’ll one day look back at your career and say: “Wow, we did some amazing work.”

This position requires engineers who can operate with a high level of technical detail, precision, and autonomy while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and regulatory bodies. It’s an opportunity to take ownership of meaningful work in a field where accuracy and safety are paramount.

Major Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Basic design and analysis of concrete, steel structures, heavy load components, and other equipment supports. Work includes conceptual studies, cost and planning studies, design calculations, specification development, and seismic analysis.

  • Develop 3D analytical models utilizing FEA analysis techniques and response spectra seismic analysis.

  • Assist with the development of design and construction drawings.

  • Ensure effective communication among other engineering disciplines.

  • Manage assigned tasks for cost, schedule, quantity, and budget control.

  • Prepare and verify designs on site including creation of as-built drawings, field walkdowns, and installation support.

Qualifications / Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil/Structural Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.

  • 3–5+ years of progressively responsible civil/structural engineering experience in the nuclear power industry (required).

  • Knowledge of civil/structural engineering fundamentals including mechanics, hydraulics, materials science, and statistical analysis.

  • Strong technical writing and documentation skills.

  • Proficiency with engineering-based programs such as Mathcad or Matlab.

  • Hands-on experience with Finite Element Analysis software and/or analysis techniques.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a team environment while being a self-starter.

  • Proven ability to deliver work with a high degree of accuracy, detail, and independence.

  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. without the need for work sponsorship now or in the future.

About the Benefits

  • Direct hire, in-house position with a top nuclear energy company.

  • Competitive compensation package.

  • Full benefits including health, dental, vision, retirement plans, and paid time off.

  • Flexible remote options, with occasional site visits as needed (less than 5%).

  • Exposure to diverse projects across the U.S. nuclear fleet — gain experience supporting multiple utilities and working with both PWR and BWR reactor types.

  • Opportunities for long-term career growth in both technical specialization and leadership.
